Mole Valley SCR 1-6 Godalming Town Saturday 11th July 2009 Friendly held at King George’s Field, Raynes Park
Godalming’s first friendly of the 2009/10 season started with a comprehensive win over Combined Counties First Division outfit Mole Valley SCR. Both Glen Stanley and Phil Williams scored braces with Godalming fielding a number of trialists.
Godalming took the lead after just seven minutes when Glen Stanley poked the ball past the Mole Valley keeper. The first half was a slow affair with a heavy downpour for much of it. Godalming went into half time still 1-0 up, but not really convincing Chuck Martini who made a host of changes at the break.
Cam Oduncoya doubled Godalming’s lead with a neat finish one-on-one with the Mole Valley keeper, but Mole Valley pulled a goal back a few minutes later. Godalming refused to give up and they safeguarded their lead with further goals from Glen Stanley, Phil Williams and Brahim Eloumani. Stanley made it 3-1 with a penalty after Williams had been fouled in the penalty box and Eloumani finished off a well worked Godalming move with a flash of skill. Marvin Best set up Phil Williams at close range for Godalming’s sixth.
Overall a good test for Godalming who were missing several key players. Godalming’s next friendly is against Molesey on Tuesday night at Charterhouse.
