Anyone else at the game last night think the report isn't really a fair reflection? I know it has to be slightly impartial, but the tackle that led to the penalty was clearly outside the box.!! I was watching the game from that corner of the ground, and the challenge was made a good 2 foot outside the box. Of course the momentum of the player took him inside as he fell, but it was never a penalty kick. To be fair, it appeared to be the sensible thing for Mariner to do as the lad had already skipped past a few challenges and was in on goal. If the decision had been given correctly, as a free kick, the points would have been ours.
I wasn't there Saturday, but i gather a very similar thing happened with Graham Purdy!! It appears that 2 penalty decisions have not gone our way this season already, and we could easily have 4 points!!
I felt for Mariner, as his work rate, and the ability of Haddard had changed the game when they came on, and put us in a position to win the match. Football is a cruel game. If the ref had done his job properly then we would have got all three points.
Come on Greg, what happened to stating the obvious in report writing?? be fair to the lads!!

I think last nights game was a very well competed game, and if you were a neutral, then a draw may have been fair. But it was very disappointing to give away that late penalty, although as I was behind the goal, I could not see whether it was inside the box or not, although everyone initially thought the ref had given a free kick. We were very unlucky at Cray not to get a penalty, as this picture shows Purdy just about to be taken out: img217.imageshack.us/my.php?image=craywanderers022tq9.jpgNever mind, we'll get a last minute penalty against Ashford on Saturday!

To be fair to Greg he was a long way from the incident and only wrote what he saw. I think the match reports on our site are actually quite fair compared to other clubs. As Nick says, hopefully we will get a few dodgy decisions on Saturday

As much as i would love to write what i really feel as a Godalming fan, i do have stay impartial or else it would be Burgess Hill fans on here saying that my report is an unfair reflection!! To be honest, i couldn't believe the ref had given a penalty until Harper put the ball on the spot!! However what ever the circumstances Mariners challenge was poor and he was just unlucky that the ref deemed it to inside the penalty area. Have to say though that Haddad did fantastically well when he came on. Looked full of energy.
