Would obviously like a win but a draw against a team that high is good progress. 2-2

Maybe the impact of playing in a quality stadium will give Gees some uplift. Let's go, for 3 in a row, with 3-2 to Gees.

Sheerwater 5 - 1 Godalming
Another trip to the impressive home of Woking FC. If only all the clubs had pitches this flat.
Anyone looking at the score line could be forgiven for thinking that this was a bit of a trouncing for the G’s. However, it was anything but, for the first 80 minutes of the game it was a tight game. The last 10 minutes or so saw some strange decisions, which totally changed the game.
With a look at the respective league positions of the two teams this was always going to be a problem for the visitors. If you add to that that there were so many new players in the G’s line-up that had not played in the G’s squad before. That having lost Richard Acheampong to a Cypriot professional team and Ollie Stevens not being available. The G’s were always going to be up against it.
But the new players fitted in well and despite having to absorb a fair bit of pressure at the end of the first half the score was just 1 – 0 to the hosts who scored from as good a shot as anything you are likely to see on MOTD, giving no chance to Jordan Knight as it nestled right in the corner of the net.
So, we all felt a bit smug as we saw the teams come off at half time and it was all to play for. We had ridden our luck it is fair to say, but all in all with the diminutive Ryan Villa looking very lively out wide and putting in a good shift in defence while Oghale Ogbaudu looking like he was settling in well at right back. Joe Lewis was a welcome sight returning alongside Curtis Osano and Reegan Scotcher moving to left back. Darren Wheeler was wearing the no 9 shirt and Jack Cleeveley supporting him. Chris Bourke, Jack Howard and Jake Heard in the midfield.
The home side had a shot hit the post and showed that they were very dangerous in attack and well drilled. Jack Howard also hit a thunderbolt of a shot from 30 yards but the home keeper who had a fine game was able to get hands to it at full stretch for a cracking save.
In the whole of the game the referee did not seem to move far from the centre circle and he issued three yellow cards in the opening spell for what were innocuous challenges from both sides and I did not see him talk to any players. But we all have bad days.
The G’s were mounting some spells of pressure themselves in the second half and the energetic Chris Bourke almost managed to chip the home keeper and only minutes later Jack Cleeveley was brought down in the area and the ref pointed to the spot. Darren Wheeler stepped up and placed it well low and wide, but the home keeper made yet another great save pushing the ball wide.
A few minutes later Chris was replaced by John Black for his first appearance for the G’s. Darren got onto the ball at the end of a good passage of play for the G's down their right and hit a powerful shot of his own cutting in from the right. This time the home keeper could not stop it although he got a hand to it. Back to 1 – 1 and all to play for.
Jack Howard hit a good free kick that the home keeper had to push round for a corner. But only two minutes later the home side worked a move with a bunch of them attacking a far post corner squeezing the ball in from close range. 2- 1 Memories of Gs tactics under Bakes and Unders.
The referee awarded a penalty to Sheerwater, which they scored from. 3 – 1. Jack Howard was dismissed apparently for a second yellow card offence, which I did not see. So, we were down to ten men. Reegan Scotcher was taken off to make way for another player and Curtis was sent up front to act as a target man. This leaves not much at the back and the G’s got caught out again twice in the last few minutes.
Must really be frustrating for the lads to have put so much in to it and come away with a score line like that which was not indicative of how most of the game went.

Bovril Status: Posh stadiums usually mean posh prices so I negotiated a credit facility with the domestic bank and came prepared to be fleeced for my half time pleasure. I am delighted to report that the delightful and efficient bar staff served up some sublime Bov for the princely sum of £1.20 a cup! Just shows you should never judge a book by the elegance of its bookshelf.
