Godalming 1 - 3 Chessington and Hook
The Gs were without Curtis Osano (presumably suspended), as well as Jeff Yohou and Anthony Myers. But they had Richard Acheampong back in the number nine shirt after he first appeared briefly, but impressively, for the Gs at Farnham a good few weeks back.
Reegan Scotcher was also on the team sheet after his equally impressive debut last week. With Curtis out another new face in Joe Lewis teamed up alongside Ashley Wright at the back.
It was a horrible day murky, wet and cold. The pitch was soft and slippery in places. Neither side did much to impress. The visitors did not impress the ref as their number 9 managed to get a stern talking to before he got a yellow card, presumably for dissent, within the first 15 minutes.
The Gs were coming under a fair bit of pressure, but Chessington did not get much in the way of clear attempts on target.
Darren cut in from the left and had time to hit a long-range shot that was just tipped over the bar by the visiting keeper at full stretch.
The referee had already had a word with the Chessington managers when the assistant referee on the dugout side called the ref over. The result was that the Chessington manager was asked to leave the dugout and make his way to the stand or the changing room. Reluctantly he did head for the stand.
Immediately following a Gs attack the visitors attacked down their right where there was space as Jordan Bird was upfield. A low cross was delivered and hit first time past Jordan Knight to put the visitors 1 - 0 up.
Richard won the ball well by challenging the defenders wide on the Gs left and he pulled the ball into the area where Kenny made his way goalward only to see his shot saved by the keeper’s feet.
Chessington came close and should really have scored when they missed the target when it seemed easier to score.
The game was getting more fraught and tetchy when Jordan Bird was booked for a needless challenge.
Shortly after Jordan Knight had to dive low to his right to nudge the ball round the post from a well struck shot.
There then developed another rather nasty fracas, which had no real .
Jack Howard hit a low shot just past the far post.
The Gs then levelled the score when Darren Wheeler popped up on the left near the goal line and in the way that only he can, lifted the ball to the far post where Jack Cleevley hit an initial shot that was saved, but Richard was on hand to put the rebound in. Score 1 – 1.
The referee then awarded a penalty to Chessington against Reegan Scotcher, which just found its way in after coming off the inside of the post. 1 – 2 to Chessington.
The Chessington number 7 was getting past the Gs defenders at times and he produced a good cross to be put away from close range for the visiting team’s third of the afternoon.
The dismissed manager then absurdly ran on to the pitch to congratulate the goal scorer and was waved off the pitch again by the referee.
Not a good performance by either team and not much of an advert for fair play or football.
