Hendo, fountain of knowledge or anyone else for that matter: do you have the answer.
Watching Northampton Saints rugby union on TV yesterday I was surprised to see most of their players wore odd coloured socks. It looked just like Shottermill and Grayshott from back in the old days when Dave Lynch and myself played and you wore whatever coloured shorts and socks you possessed.
I knew Barbarians players wore their club coloured socks by tradition.
Are you able to come up with an explantion please?

Two possible reasons spring to mind. Last year, a large number of pupils in Oxfordshire wore odd socks to school as a sign of protest against bullying. Perhaps this was a gesture of solidarity from Northampton after some opposition forward said something unkind about personal hygiene in a loose maul.
However, the more likely reason for the eclectic hosiery is that Northampton named their team ‘Saints’ after St. Michael, the patron saint of socks and underwear, and this was a chance to show off highlights from the autumn collection.

I've always found the truth getting in the way of a perfectly good story..

Thanks Admin and thanks Hendo.
If you can view the match you will observe that Referee JP Doyle didn't give a damn about players personal hygiene the way he got his head in amongst the heap of backsides checking out the grounded ball for himself rather than the playback on the big screen. Real dedication.

It's either dedication or the only way he can achieve posterial proximity without ending up on a Police register.
