Grassroots sports clubs can now apply for a share of £250,000
through Jewson Building Better Communities.
The builders’ merchant is giving away £250,000 in building materials, including a top prize of up to £50,000 for one community project, to help good causes improve their facilities.
Whether clubs need a new roof for their changing rooms, a pitch transformation or want to improve their clubhouse or dugouts, they have until Wednesday 9th May to submit their application via buildingbettercommunities.co.uk.
Jewson is encouraging grassroots clubs to put forward their applications understanding the importance they play in local communities: “Clubs bring whole communities together and help people of all ages develop key skills,” said Thierry Dufour, Managing Director of Jewson. “To keep these clubs, which are often the lifeblood of their area, going, they need support to improve their facilities and make sure as many people as possible can play and enjoy sport. That’s why we’re asking people to nominate their sports club for our Building Better Communities prize.”
After a shortlisting process and a public vote, the winning projects will be announced on 3rd July at a ceremony hosted by celebrity architect, George Clarke.
George Clarke, who is involved in Building Better Communities for the second year running, said: “The funds donated as part of the Building Better Communities competition are already making a huge difference to local charities and community groups across the UK and can do the same for many others. We know there are groups doing great work on a daily basis, so it’s an honour to be supporting them and I’m really looking forward to learning about this year’s entries.”
Projects have until Wednesday 9th May to submit their entry via buildingbettercommunities.co.uk. The competition is being supported by Jewson supplier brands: Velux; Marshalls, Polypipe; British Gypsum; Tarmac; Recticel and Norbord.
