After watching some of the game away at Walton last week, I am feeling upbeat. G's 4 - 1 Epsom......att 87......1/4 Pounder with cheese and a small bottle of Lucozade.....a damn sight cheaper than it was at Walton !!

I saw E&E when we played them away, and then again when they took on Westfield a week later. Prediction based on these precedents: Language not tolerated at the Epsom School of Charm and Etiquette and a 3-0 win for the G's ..followed by even more language not tolerated at the Epsom School of Charm and Etiquette.

Worst performance I’ve seen for a while, I thought the players looked like they were playing together for the first time. A few new faces were very poor. Lots of misplaced passes and wasted runs. Hopefully better to come over the next few weeks.

Godalming 1 Epsom and Ewell 2
No doubt that this result was a considerable disappointment after the great results of recent weeks. Sure, the Gees were without Tom Biss who has been very influential, but the equally impressive Lee Boon moved to left wing and Jack Howard was back in the boiler room. So, what went wrong is beyond me. A couple of games on 3G pitches? The moon was in the wrong quarter? Who knows. But it was a pretty lack lustre performance in truth. Having said all of that it was not for lack of chances as Michael’s stats will show. Gees had by far the greater possession, far more chances five on target, but only one found the net. E & E had only three on target and two of them found their way in. It all started quite well with Hakim looking dangerous, as always, breaking free early on only to pull his shot just wide of the left-hand post, when one on one with the keeper. Not long after Bobby Bennett, who had another good game, got free on the right after a good ball from Benga put him through and hit a shot across the goal, which came back off the far post and Hakim was on hand to pop it into the net. The Gees were pressing for a second when they were caught on the break and the resulting cross found the only E& E player in the 6-yard box who had an easy conversion for the equaliser. Much as the Gees huffed and puffed, with some good passing but they could not find the required finish. The Gees then went 2-1 down when E&E broke quickly again and delivered a great cross from their right over Dimi dropping under the bar at the far post making it easy for it to be bundled in. The big excitement for me was to see the name of Guy Hollis back in the Gees squad, albeit for just one game. Did not see that one coming. Was watching him on the telly a couple of weeks back in Slough’s clash against Rochdale. It brought it all back. Shaping up for some really long throws and watching him match the opposition winger for pace. He nearly got on the score sheet from close range in the second half, but it went just around the post. What a Roy of the Rovers story that would have been. Memories of Guy partnering Adam Foulser at the heart of the Gees defence, with Wes Harrison and Ryan Lake as the backs, Jamie Mc Clurg and Ben Edwards, a couple of Harris’ (Warren and Scott), and a Darren Wheeler. Even a Gav Smith and Jon Palmer - whoever they might be!! Those were the days. But they also had some poor performances against lowly opposition, when we had expected much better. It happens. We need to get back on the bike straightaway and back to winning ways. Farnham here we come. Michaels stats Gees Epsom & Ewell attempts 13 5 on target 5 3 corners 2 fouls 18 (4 o/s) 14 (7 o/s) poss 1 52 48 poss 2 60 40 yellows 1 1 Bovril status: A welcome moment of salty warmth on an otherwise bleak afternoon
