i have to say I was a bit surprised to see the floodlight turned on for the start of the ladies game yesterday, they didn’t make any difference as the sun kept appearing and the men’s game kicked off an hour later the day before and didn’t start with lights.

You make a good valid point Goldenoldie. I can't exactly comment on those two points you make but whatever my location was the light at those times was perfectly ok.
Could it be down to a stupid regulation rather than common sense prevailing or perhaps even the club has money to burn.

I understand that the lights came on late for the men’s game to hide the fact we had 18 players on the field when it was dark
no Idea why the came on so early for the lady’s game although I did see a long extension lead that plugged into a linked socket for Godalming Christmas lights, perhaps it’s a money saving idea.
