Reading this On the F.A. site we need to make sure we finish at least one place higher than where we are! Think we’re step 6.
Step6and7 At the end of the Regular Playing Season the Clubs in the bottom two positions of each of the twenty Step 6 divisions will be liable to relegation. All Step 7 Clubs seeking promotion to Step 6 must make application using the prescribed form direct to The Association, copied to their existing League, by 31st December in the relevant year. In order to be considered for promotion Clubs must finish in 1st position in their Step 7 league. If the Club finishing in 1st position does not wish to be promoted or fails to meet the entry criteria then the club finishing in 2nd position will be eligible for promotion. If the club in 2nd position does not seek promotion or fails to meet the entry criteria then clubs down to 5th position may be considered for promotion provided that they meet the appropriate entry criteria. Clubs finishing below 5th position may not be considered for promotion and, for this season only, more than one club may be considered from each League. Each application must be accompanied by the agreed application fee, as determined by the Committee, which is non-refundable. No more than 40 Clubs will be promoted from Step 7. If more than 40 Clubs are eligible for promotion they will be chosen based on a points per match basis. Where the eligible Clubs count does not reach 40 in number, reprieves of Step 6 Clubs shall come into effect on a points per match basis.

From my research and relentless questioning both at Godalming and other clubs at our level ...no-one seems to know. As TG points out, the original FA plan seemed quite clear with for four up and two down, but now they have decided to create an additional league at our level, the FA have back-tracked somewhat and are no longer committing themselves. The word on the street is that they are waiting until March to see how the various leagues are faring and then make a final decision on next year's structure which will have a lot to do with the location of ALL the clubs as they are trying to keep travelling to a minimum. If I was a betting man, I'd say that only one team at most will be relegated from our league. However, I'm not a betting man.

According to a post on the NLM Forum on 6th. January 2020, 83 clubs nationally have applied for promotion from Step 7 to Step 6 ( only one from the Surrey Elite League - Lyne FC ). Some of these, of course, will not meet ground grading regulations or finish in a high enough position in their League to be eligible for promotion. No decision on the Step 6 constitution for 2020/21 will be possible until after the end of the current season. So, vitally important for Gs to gain as many points as possible in the remainder of this season. It could well come down to reprieves on a points per game basis. Or, finish third from bottom and no problem and no anxious wait during the summer !

As Jeff says the position is unclear at the moment. Vital that we do not finish bottom, ideally out of the bottom 2

Then tap into his link at top of his page or on the post he did on 13/1 and that will give you a good understanding of what is going on

There’s some good updates here and as Uhtred says the G’s need to get as many points as possible. But is there a plan to do this, due to one thing or another I’ve missed quite a few games, but those I have seen, we have fielded a very young side who have frankly been outplayed and out muscled. Are there plans to bring in reinforcements, I fear the worst.

Parker,I would say the plans to bring in players is a no unless they play for nothing,as I would imagine the club has no money, hopefully club legend darren wheeler will be back playing soon. Personally I would still love to see a weekly manager update on here.

I'll second your very true words Cobbler and regarding your final comment; yes, if only.

One simple way would be for the notes that are presumably printed in the match programme could also be posted on the Forum. Too simple. OK it wouldn't be weekly but at least it would be something.

We had a full squad on Saturday with some welcome new faces. Paul even had to tell 4 players that their services were not required at all for this week. Hope you can read the team sheet. After being 2-0 down at half time we fought back really well to make it 2-2. If only Donte could have finished a one on one with their goalkeeper right at the end! The team looked the strongest it has been for a while and it feels like Paul is building something good now. I am sure we will get some wins with this team and the spirit they have shown.

There is a very clear explanation of the restucturing position, by Chris Clapham , on the Combined Counties League Fans' Forum website. Nothing can be decided until all Leagues nationally at Steps 5 and 6 have completed all their fixtures. The FA's Leagues Committee will draft Steps 5 and 6 allocations by 12th. May and will inform clubs. Any club proposed for a lateral movement will have to comment to the FA by 5.00pm on 19th. May. The Step 5 and 6 allocations for 2020/21 will then be released by the FA on 21st. May. The post also includes three maps showing the provisional areas to be covered by the Combined Counties League. none of the maps cover Godalming. So, it looks increasingly likely that Gs will play in the Southern Combination League in 2020/21. If they can avoid relegation and stay at Step 6 !!

Looks like we better put a decent unbeaten run together then to stay up.

Although I generally get to see a fair few games this season I have seen less than I would have liked. Those I have seen we haven’t really been competitive so I see little sign of a winning run.
