Whilst I feel sorry for Wimbledon's fans as this was a very harsh punishment, I can't see how we can change the rules midway through a season.
The rule they broke was a very silly mistake to make and you cannot punish some clubs (Altrincham and Bury) and not punish others.
It sucks, but you could argue that it would actually be "unfair" not to stick to the rules that every club agreed to and has had to apply. The punishment, whilst crazely harsh, should remain and the rule should be amended in the Summer in time for next season.
Controversial but that's one way of looking at it!

It's not controversial at all. The rules are completely clear on the subject. The points should be deducted. It's happened to many Clubs before and it looks like it will be happening to quite a few in the future. It's a pretty stupid and avoidable mistake to make at the end of the day.
