Godalming 1 – 3 Dorkinians
I confess that the name Dorkinian’s meant very little to me and to my amazement I find, from the exquisite Gs programme that Giles produced and should be very proud of, that it gives us some background.
It seems that they have been around for 90 years and have 7 adult teams and 20 youth teams, which seems extremely impressive. They certainly looked impressive as they started this game at a canter and their number 10 tore through the Gs defence and put them ahead within a couple of minutes of the kick off.
It was good to see that the young Dom Hardisty was given a start at right back and that Ryan Villa was therefore allowed to play further forward. Raisan Francis was at left back and Joe Lewis and Reegan Scotcher the centre backs, in front of Jordan Knight.. Saul Grant started in the midfield along with Darren Wheeler, Ben Bauchop. Donte Lodge-Francis was up front, Jack Cleeveley at number 10. It did mean that Kenny Kassibante was on the bench as was Richie Mbele, Jordan Cavender, Charlie Chennel, and a new name in Ewan Carter. Still without Francis Sey and Rory Sellick, both of whom we missed in recent games, so hopefully are making recoveries from their injuries.
Saul was making an impressive contribution in the middle and that is just what I think we need to bolster the defences. Unfortunately, the ref felt that he was making it a bit too forcibly and he went into the referee’s book around 15 minutes in.
The Gs won a free kick in front of the stand. Darren delivered a curling free kick into the area, which ended with Donte getting the ball with his back to goal. He was able to spin round and hit a great shot that found the back of the net to bring the score level.
Donte made another good run down the right and pulled the ball in where the defence were under pressure and struggled to clear it. Jack Cleeveley was in there, but could not bundle the ball in.
Saul then was on the wrong end of a bad tackle from the visitor’s number 6 who got a yellow card. Their number 10 also went into the ref’s book for a tackle on Ben Bauchop.
Evan Carter replaces Saul Grant in the middle.
More good pressure from the Gs sees Darren cut in from the right and hits a shot that is deflected into the keeper’s hands.
Ben Bauchop replaced by Kenny Kassibante.
Ryan is having a good game terrorising the visitors defence. But the Gs go 2-1 down after another free kick is floated to beyond the far post from where it was hit home.
Gs starting to look a bit ragged at the back.
Jack Cleeveley comes off to make way for Richie MBele.
Joe gets a yellow card.
The visitors third goal comes from yet again a free kick played long ball into the Gs defence.
Looks like we have got a second goal from a corner with Donte on the goal line but it was ruled out for offside. The visitors also had a goal disallowed for offside.
A much better performance for me against a strong opposing team but again that disappointing feeling as we made our way home.
