Prediction: No room in the carpark as the ground is in the centre of the town, and it's 3 days to Christmas... the game? 2-2

As I could not make it to the game Dave Ewing kindly did a report on what looked like an entertaining game. See below:-
Dorking U23ās 4 Gees 3
Sometimes you pay your Ā£6 to get into a game and wonder if the junior match being played for free in the park opposite would not be a better watch. Other times you are treated to some of the best exhilarating and skilful football money can buy. Today, luckily. was one of the latter games.
Dorking has quite a set up at Meadowbank. 3G pitch, lovely stand with comfy seats and heated toilets, and the Heathy Kitchen catering and cocktail bar providing the nosh. All very sleek, corporate and clean.
Conditions were as lovely as the facilities - mild with a bit of watery sunshine and less blustery than of late. However, Dorking were not in the mood for handing out Christmas presents and after 7 minutes they cut clean through the Godalming defence and scored a cracking goal. Followed by a second after 18 minutes. Again, a quick passing move through the Godalming defence and another fantastic finish. But just as we were hunkering down for what seemed like an inevitable battering the Gees started to claw back into the game. The defence got better organised and Dorking were clearly frustrated as their attacks broke down repeatedly and Godalming started to counter more effectively. 36 minutes in Richard got the ball on the outside of the box and cleverly took a couple of touches before launching it into the back of the Dorking net. 2-1 and things were looking up. From then until half time Godalming had the upper hand, had a decent penalty claim refused and the best of the chances but could not find the back of the net.
There was optimism over the half time cocktails in the bar. The Gees fans sipped their blue lagoons and nibbled their organic locally sourced free range wasabi beans. What had looked like a right drubbing for the boys might even bring us back some points!
The second half started with more Gees pressure. Two perfectly crafted crosses from Darren Wheeler led to missed chances for Jack and Richard. If one had gone inā¦. We had them shaken but not quite stirred enough. But on the 69th minute disaster struck ā another sharp break and their danger man ā number 11 ā was given some space on thin the box and we were 3-1 down. However lying down and accepting defeat is not part of the current Gees mentality. Curtis shouted to the team that they had talked about this situation and had to keep their heads up and keep fighting. Which they did. The game opened up and Godalming piled pressure on. There were some great moves- in particular Darren linking up with jack Howard who was blasting some ferocious shots at range and a great Wheeler free kick touched over the bar. You could feel it comingā¦ and come it did! After a series of blocked shots Ollie Stevens finally got the ball over the line and the Gees were one away again.
However Dorking came back hard forcing a series of great saves from Jordan ( who had an excellent game) and they responded with another great goal short from range just going in after scarping the crossbar. 2cm higher it would have gone over.. This was a belly punch to the Gees but they kept pushing and hassling. No one epitomises this fighting spirit more than Jack Howard. Worryingly he was carried off on the 90th minute with an injury. The team kept going and finally Jack Cleevley managed to get the ball over the line again to bring the Gees to within a goal of a point again. But the whistle put paid to the dream. The only pointless aspect of this game from a Godalming viewpoint was the result. Everything else was bang on. Given where we were after the first twenty minutes the team played with commitment, drive and skill both in attack and notably in defence. Dorking are a class outfit but Godalming certainly gave them a game. I canāt think of anywhere else that Ā£6 can buy you such entertainment and excitement!
Stats:
Dorking Gees
Attempts 20 10
On Target 13 5
Corners 5 3
Fouls 15(4o/s) 10(2o/s)

Bovril status: Health kitchenā¦ Mediterranean lemon smoothie (made from sea lemons!) Peach and ginger green teaā¦ But could they dissolve a dod of the black stuff in a polystyrene cup for the fans? Nae chance!

Brilliantly written report Dave! The game reminded me of Newcastle under Keegan with lots of goalmouth action and his instruction that the midfield is for losers. Very excited with the combination of Richard and Ollie upfront. I thought the referee, Lucy, resplendent with diamond earring and ponytail, had a fabulous game as well. As you say Dave, despite losing, if all Godalming games are going to be that entertaining, we'll need a policeman on a white horse to control the enormous crowds flocking to Weycourt in 2019.
Is it just me, or do we seem to have better games when we play on artificial pitches?
