Disappointing to see just 2 subs, 1 of which is a GK. at least three U18’s there, maybe ask a few more?

Ash Utd 1 - 1 Godalming (Abandoned 71 mins)
For the second week running the heavens opened up during the game and in the end it was the weather that won.
Once again, the Gs supporters turned out in their numbers despite the near freezing conditions. They saw a first for me with a blue kit that reminded me of several other teams, but definitely not the Gs.
We also saw a debut start for Charlie Chennel from the Under 18s and only a second start for Craig Adu-Adjei.
Ashley Wright was out injured, and Jordan Bird unavailable so I was delighted to see Dom Hardisty get the call from Les to start at left back alongside Curtis Osano, Joe Lewis and Craig in front of Jordan Knight in goal. Jack Howard, Charlie Chennel, Reegan Scotcher and Darren Wheeler making a welcome return in the midfield and Ollie Stevens and Jack Cleevely upfront. Ryan Maynard on the bench alongside Matt Kerbey.
The start could not have gone much better for the Gs as only 3 minutes in Darren Wheeler found himself with a bit of space out on the left where he reminded us of his skill when he popped the ball neatly past one defender, did the second one for pace and cut the ball in from the touchline low to the near post where the impressive Ollie Stevens turned it in from close range. What a find Ollie has been.
The home side then put a fair bit of pressure on and won a string of corners but failed to get any real shots in that would test Jordan.
At about 30 minutes Ollie got the ball in the back of the net again from a good ball through from Reegan Scotcher only to be ruled offside.
Reegan Scotcher has also been enormous for the Gs since he arrived a few weeks ago.
Only a minute or so later Craig drew himself to the referee’s attention when he was yellow carded for a challenge just inside the box. So, Ash drew level from the penalty spot.
So, it was 1-1 at half time and a lone figure on the pitch in the diving rain bravely working away with a fork trying to diffuse the standing water in the middle of the pitch. Thought of giving him a hand, but that thought did not last long.
Ten minutes after the restart Craig was adjudged to have been over the top on a tackle on the touch line. Second yellow and hence red. FA official next to me commented that he felt the conditions could be contributory.
Darren came off to allow Ryan Maynard to join the fray amongst the back four.
But after 26 minutes of the second half the referee decided that there was a danger to the players and spoke to the managers and called it a day.
Cannot make it to the Dorking game this week so a Happy Christmas to all and see you in the New Year.
COYG’s.
